Emergently:
Empowering First Aid Confidence

Emergently is a first-aid support platform designed to reduce hesitation in emergency response by empowering individuals with instant, reliable, and tailored guidance. Developed in under 48 hours during a health hackathon, the app combines AI-based chat support, personalized emergency IDs, and geotagged EMS alerts in a single accessible solution.

Challenge
Despite growing awareness, only 16% of UK adults feel confident to assist in a medical emergency. First aid apps exist but often lack practical tools, emotional support, or integration with local EMS systems. In time-critical situations, hesitation and confusion cost lives.
Solution
Emergently equips users to act fast with:
Step-by-step guides for common emergencies (fire, bleeds, heart attacks)
Specialised protocols (pediatrics, geriatric, pregnancy)
AI chatbot to guide users when they don’t know what to do
Geolocation to notify nearby EMS-certified users
Emergency ID visible even when the phone is locked
Offline access and multilingual support
Audience
We designed Emergently for laypeople aged 18 - 40, with a specific focus on university students and young professionals - users who often hesitate in medical emergencies due to a lack of confidence or training.

Discovery and Research
SWOT Analysis
To align the team and focus our efforts, we quickly mapped strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats for our solution. This helped us identify our unique value and anticipate challenges from the start.

Ideation & Teamwork
We ran a 30-minute design sprint, rapidly brainstorming and prioritising ideas as a team. We mapped out user needs and selected the most impactful features for our MVP.

Prototyping
I designed high-fidelity screens in Figma, focusing on core flows. We iterated quickly based on team and mentor feedback to ensure usability and clarity.

Final solution
We delivered a working prototype with:
A clean, stress-free interface
AI-powered triage chatbot
User onboarding + personal medical data capture
Screen-lock emergency info card
Visual UX logic for EMS escalation and caregiver coordination
“A beautifully clear concept with real public health impact - the Emergently prototype stood out for its simplicity, accessibility, and potential to scale. We were impressed by how much was achieved in just 48 hours.”
